In select instances, we may receive a sales file that is missing the VIN column:
- Some combination DMS/CRM systems, they may not track the VIN information - especially for smaller used-only dealers
- ODA dealers may submit a sales file that contains all data except the VIN column. Rather than email the dealer back and request the VIN column to be added, it is easier to just follow this process.
In these cases, we can populate the Sales file with “dummy VINs” in order to get the file to load. The VIN column is required by our ETL DAGs and it must be populated for each sale or the sale will get filtered out (not ingested to Standardized) with Reason=Missing VIN
You can follow this process to make these files acceptable to load with our ETL DAGs:
- Add a new column to the Sales file and label the header row VIN.
- Open the file: VINS-Random_Unique_VINs_10000.xls
- Select as many VINs as you need and copy the cells.
- Past the cells into the Sales file you are working so that each sales row has a VIN assigned.
Note: Do not use the same VINs within the same property and the same month. If you do, the subsequent/additional sales will get filtered out with reason="Duplicate VIN".
