Apple started blocking third-party cookies in 2017, and Google plans to do the same by the end of 2024. However, it's important to note that state or federal laws are not forcing those decisions. While Clarivoy may use first-party and third-party cookies, we don't solely rely on cookies for our identity resolution. Therefore, we can still identify website visitors in a way that complies with privacy regulations. Generally, privacy compliance is governed by the privacy policy of a dealer's website.
The dealership privacy policy needs to include the following. In most cases, this verbiage is already in place on most dealership websites.
- Works with a third party for advertising measurement
- Works with a third party for targeted advertising
- Information collected about a consumer's online activities may be used to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to the consumer
- The ability for a website visitor to opt out
We speak to the above in more detail in our terms of service. Our lawyers require us to reinforce that this is not legal advice. Any actions based on our suggestions should be done in consultation with legal counsel.
