How to Troubleshoot GA4 Access

Common Reasons for Missing Google Ads Data in GA4
  • Accounts are Not Linked: Your GA4 property and Google Ads account must be explicitly connected. Verify this in Admin > Product Links > Google Ads Links.
  • Accounts are linked, but Cost and Revenue metrics are not being share with Clarivoy:
  • Auto-tagging is Disabled: Google Ads auto-tagging must be turned on in your Google Ads account settings, otherwise, GA4 cannot track campaign data.
  • Data Latency: It can take up to 48 hours for data to populate in GA4 after linking the accounts.
  • Incorrect Permissions: You must have edit or administrator access in both GA4 and Google Ads to link them.
  • GCLID Data Loss: If your website redirects or strips parameters, the Google Click Identifier (GCLID) may be lost, preventing data attribution.
Troubleshooting Steps
  1. Check Links: Navigate to Admin > Product Links > Google Ads Links to verify the connection.
  2. Verify Auto-tagging: In Google Ads, go to Settings > Account Settings > Auto-tagging and ensure it is checked.
  3. Check Properties: Ensure the property for your site is receiving data (the GA4 tag is collecting data on the website and traffic is showing in the GA4 account).
  4. Check User Access: Confirm you have sufficient permissions (Viewer or above in GA4).

If the dealer or vendor claims they have given you access, but they do not appear in the GA4 account list:

  1. Check the other support accounts to make sure they gave access to the right ones.
  2. Confirm that you were given Analyst-level permission.
  3. Take a screenshot of the account numbers in the GA4 dropdown and send it to the person granting permissions. They may be granting you permissions to the wrong account.

If you can see the account, but there is no Google Ads data:

  1. Confirm with the dealer or vendor that the link has been made. You can see the link in the admin section:

2. If no links show in the next window, the link has not been activated. Ask the agency to link the Google Ads account.

3. If the account has been linked, but you still don't see the Google Ads data, confirm that auto-tagging has been turned on inn th eGoogle Ads account. Clarivoy will not have visual access to confirm this step, but should ask for a screenshot from the agency to confrim.
